Matt is a registered patent attorney with twenty-five years’ experience in all areas of intellectual property. He has extensive experience helping clients obtain, enforce and defend against patents in a wide variety of technology areas, including cannabis, software, wireless communications, consumer products, architectural systems and medical devices.
Matt also has extensive experience in helping clients obtain, enforce and defend against trademarks.
Matt also has litigated cases in each of the major intellectual-property disciplines — patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secrets.
Finally, Matt also counsels clients on such issues as intellectual property licensing and due diligence involving intellectual property assets.
In 2011, Matt left an AmLaw 50 national law firm and founded a boutique intellectual property firm in Orange County, California.
Matt is a past-president of the Orange County Intellectual Property Law Association and has repeatedly been recognized as a “Southern California Super Lawyer.”

Matt is a past-president of the Orange County (California) Intellectual Property Law Association (2018), having served as a board member between 2012-2018.
Matt has been recognized as a “Southern California Super Lawyer” in Intellectual Property Litigation each year from 2019 to 2025.

Matt is a past-Master in the Howard T. Markey Intellectual Property Inn of Court, where he served from 2015-2021.
Matt served as a board member for the non-profit Web Wise Kids, which focused on educating kids about how to recognize and avoid online predators and scams.
Matt received the Children’s Humanitarian Award from Web Wise Kids in 2010.
Education
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Texas A&M University, where he was a proud member of the Fightin’ Texas Aggie Corps of Cadets, Class of ‘93. He also earned his cord with the Fish Drill Team, served with the Color Guard, held a U.S. Air Force ROTC full scholarship, and served with the Memorial Student Center Opera and Performing Arts Society.
Matt holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Texas School of Law at Austin, where he excelled at advocacy competitions and was an officer of the Board of Advocates.
